Blame Harness racings demise on the breeders

July 24th, 2008 by trottingrocks

Pure and simple there is no fan interest because there is no superstars to follow. All the great horses retire before they are fully grown at 3 just like Donato did and windsong and Rock and Roll, etc. How bad would it of sucked if Niatross didnt race at 4 or Albatross? There should be a USTA rule that no breeding/stud duties can start till a horse is 5 that way 4 yr. olds would race. I cant help but think how ripped off we will be getting by not watching Somebeach race as a 4 yr. old. 1:47 at 3? Wow he might go in 1:45 when he is fully grown, but we will never know. The sport needs stars to follow just like it had Greyhound, Dan Patch, etc. The public needs to follow stars, its not just about betting, its about the sport. Look at what we would of missed if Mr. Muscleman or Vivid Photo had retired at 3? The breeders are to blame and the USTA should step in somehow.

Greatest trotter ever

This is my first post so I will express my opinion on who I believe is the greatest trotter of all time. Sorry Donato, Sorry Super Bowl, many apologies but the greatest of alltime is ..Mr. Muscleman ! This 3.7 million dollar winner has more career miles under 1:52 than any others. Im hoping for a comeback even though he is 8 yrs old and coming off an injury. I remember looking at the program at the big M on hambo day a few years ago and every 1 mile race on his card was 1:52 or faster. Now adays there are hardly any miles under 1:52 for trotters. (I dont remember any in 2008 but I might have missed something) Point is Mr. Muscleman was heads above the rest.
